Why Some People Are Scared Of Driving

No one tell you exactly why people develop fear of driving. As the sufferers are different individuals with different experiences. Their circumstances might not exactly match.

However, there are still some common characteristic of experiences that these people go through. These characteristics can help as identify the causes of this kind of phobia.

First and most important characteristic is that mostly the sufferers have been in a car accident. Accidents are not something to look forward to. If they occur, they can cause some big amount of damage. However, the experience is very horrifying for the people who happen to be in the affected cars.

It really does not matter if you were the guilty one or the victim. Victims involved in such accidents have to suffer through the pain of reliving those moments as the images of the accident keeps on being played in their heads. They become afraid of driving as they are fearful that they might end up in the same situation again.

For the ones responsible, the fear of committing the same act is crippling enough. They do not want to land in the same problem again.

They form wrong associations. They start to associate being in a vehicle to bad accidents. This leads to the experience of panic and anxiety while driving. This makes them quit driving completely.

The affected need not be drivers only. Passengers of the car that underwent accident can develop a phobia of driving as well. Same applies to pedestrians, who end up becoming a victim of hit and run incident.

These accidents do a lot of damage to their perception. They become afraid that they might become of any such event again or they might cause the same kind of problem to someone else. This is enough to prevent them from taking up driving. They can not find the courage to learn driving and practicing it.
