How To Get Customers To Buy A Product

By Paul Fallon

It is the norm to place the words "new and improved" as the important words to use when you are doing marketing.

This is on the assumption that everyone is out to find an edge all the time and so using words like these will let them believe that what they are getting is new and will give them the advantage of longer life of the product. Whether the customer thinks newer is also better is anyone's guess.

You see, the word "newer" could also be taken to mean a new improvement in the product, added features, a newer technology or fixed bugs. What about the client who just bought the gadget the other day, they might be led to think that the newer item is an updated version of what they already have They would be tempted to come back to get the latest one.

The customers would believe that the manufacturers keep on improving their products.

What remains as the big question is whether newer is always better. Newer might also be more affordable if the methods of production have been improved in order to reduce the costs considerably. It gives you a better edge indeed over the competitors.

A look at the customer - does new also mean cheaper spending, or does it give them a more improved lifestyle to live with? You could also wonder if it would ease their pain or mental torture.

On the contrary, most of these "new improved" fads only have one aim. To make the customer discard the old in order to acquire the new; thus giving them a mental boost which comes by owning something brandy new. World class marketers know that their "new and improved" should be able to draw sales for very good reasons.

Therefore, a good marketer should take into account the feelings of the customers and their needs in getting the product. That means your customers should realize that their lives became easier and better by acquiring the product.
